Structural Glazing Silicone and Glazed Screen Weather Sealing
Glazed façades and screens rely on sealant at every perimeter and junction to keep rain out. Our team applies the weather seals around glazing, using structural glazing silicone and other sealants chosen for each joint, from the ground to high level.
What we do on glazed façades
We apply weather sealant to the joints around glazed systems. That means the perimeter joint between a glazed screen or curtain wall and the structure around it, and the weather seals between framing and adjoining materials. Our work is the sealant application: we do not design, supply or warrant glazing systems.
Searches for structural glazing sealant and curtain wall structural sealant often mix up two jobs: the structural bond made in a glazing factory or by the system supplier, and the weather sealing applied on site. Ours is the second job.
Where a glazing system is specified to use structural glazing silicone or a specific sealant, we follow that specification, and we use the product named by the system or the main contractor. We do not carry out the structural bond between glass and frame; that stays with the glazing system supplier. Our work is the on-site weather seals and perimeter joints.
Glazed elements we seal
Curtain walling
Perimeter joints and weather seals where curtain walling meets the building.
Glazed screens
Screen perimeters and junctions with floors, walls and soffits.
Commercial windows
Commercial window sealant between window frames and the surrounding construction.
Transoms and mullions
Weather seals at framing junctions, applied neatly in colour-matched sealant.
Stone and panel interfaces
Joints between glazing and stone, cladding units or metal panels.
Remedial resealing
Replacing failed weather seals on existing glazed buildings.
See also our façade, cladding and curtain wall sealing page, which covers the wider building envelope.
Choosing the right sealant for glass, metal and stone
Sealant next to glass has to bond well, stay flexible and avoid staining adjacent stone. We use and apply Arbo, Sika and Dow products, as the approved product list for the job allows, and select the sealant type, such as low-modulus or non-staining silicone, modified polymer or polyurethane, to suit the surfaces and movement of each joint.
- Non-staining silicone where stone or porous cladding sits next to the glass
- Low-modulus sealants where joints are expected to move
- Colour matched to the frames and the elevation
- Backing materials and primers used as the product data sheet requires
Where the glazing system or the specification names a particular silicone, that is the product we use.
Access for glazed façades
Glazed elevations are usually high, and the work is carried out from the access the site provides or specifies. IPAF and PASMA cards are held for the access equipment we use. We work from boom lifts, cherry pickers and scaffold towers, depending on the height of the elevation and what the site allows.
We work to your programme, coordinate with the glazing contractor and keep the glass clean while we work. Risk assessments and method statements are available on request.
Experience on commercial buildings
Our team has over 20 years in construction behind it, and we are currently sealing external window frame perimeters between the stone façade and the frames at Salisbury Square, the new City of London law courts. Read more on the Salisbury Square project page.
We carry £10m Employer’s Liability and £5m Public Liability cover and work with main contractors, developers and facilities managers across London, the South East, the Midlands, the East of England and the South. For package work, see our commercial mastic contractor page.

Structural glazing and weather sealing: common questions
Do you supply or design glazing systems?
No. We are specialist sealant applicators. We apply the weather sealant to glazing perimeters and junctions, following the specification for the system.
Can you replace failed weather seals on an existing glazed building?
Yes, remedial resealing is common. Failed sealant is cut out, the joint is prepared and fresh sealant is applied, from the access the building needs.
Which sealants do you use next to glass and stone?
We choose the sealant to suit the materials and movement, for example a non-staining silicone next to stone or a low-modulus sealant where joints move.
Do you work for main contractors?
Yes. We work for main contractors, developers, glazing contractors and facilities managers, to programme and with the correct access.
Glazed façade or screen needs sealing?
