Rushden made its name making boots and shoes, and rows of Victorian and Edwardian terraces still run off the High Street.

Higham Ferrers, one of the oldest market towns in the county, joins it to the north, and Rushden Lakes has brought shops and leisure to the Nene valley on the town’s edge. Newer estates have filled in to the east and south.
