The first garden city
Letchworth was founded in 1903 as the world’s first garden city, planned by Barry Parker and Raymond Unwin on Ebenezer Howard’s ideas.
Its Arts & Crafts cottages, tree-lined roads and the formal Broadway, with the Art Deco Broadway Cinema near the town centre, still give it a character of its own. Much of the town is looked after by the Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation, and appearance matters here.
That makes neat, discreet sealant important. A joint in the wrong colour, or a bead smeared across the frame, spoils the look of a house that has kept its original character for more than a century.

From crumbling to clean
Old sealant doesn’t just look bad: once it crumbles away from the frame, water can get into the reveal behind the tiles or the render.
We cut out every trace of the failed joint, clean back to a sound surface and lay a new, flexible bead that’s tooled smooth and finished in a colour that suits the frame.

Sealant services for garden city homes
Window resealing
Perimeter joints on timber, uPVC and aluminium frames renewed, matched to frame and render.
Window & door mastic →Doors & porches
Front door frames, porches and thresholds sealed so draughts and rain stay out.
Bathrooms
Baths, showers and tiled sills resealed with anti-mould silicone after a full strip-out.
Kitchens
Worktops, upstands and splashbacks finished with clean, flexible joints.
Shops & offices
Frames, washrooms and kitchens in town-centre premises, sealed around trading hours.
Commercial mastic →Extensions
Abutments, frames and movement joints sealed on extensions and new plots.
Door frames sealed to brick
Door frames take knocks every day, and the joint round them takes a lot of movement. We use a durable, low-modulus sealant that stays flexible, in white, brown, black or a brick-matched colour.
On rendered houses we can match the render, so the joint looks like part of the wall.

Letchworth sealant questions
My house is covered by the Heritage Foundation’s Scheme of Management. Can you still reseal the windows?
Resealing in a matching colour is normally routine maintenance, but changes to the look of a house in Letchworth can need consent from the Heritage Foundation. If in doubt, check with them first. We’re happy to match whatever colour and finish is agreed.
Can you show me what the joint will look like before and after?
Yes. We take photos before and after every job, and we can show you examples of similar windows and bathrooms we’ve done.
Do you cover Stotfold and Arlesey?
Yes. From this page we cover Stotfold, Arlesey, Fairfield, Willian and Church End, as well as every part of Letchworth itself.
