One of England’s oldest towns
Towcester grew on Watling Street, where the Roman town of Lactodorum once stood, and it claims to be one of the oldest towns in England.
The old coaching inns along the main street, the racecourse at Easton Neston and the canal at Stoke Bruerne all sit within a few miles. Newer estates have expanded the town to the south, and the villages around are built in local ironstone and limestone.
